Michael Meaney Ph.D. is currently James McGill Professor of Medicine in the Departments of Psychiatry and Neurology and Neurosurgery. He is also Director, Program for the study of Behavior, Genes and Environment at McGill University. He is interested in the mechanisms by which adversity in early life alters neural development so as to render certain individuals at risk for pathology later in life focusing on epigenetic influences. Early life events serve as potent determinants of vulnerability/resistance to chronic illness, including depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and drug abuse.
