The Palix Foundation’s gift to the University of Lethbridge has supported the development of a systematic research program to demonstrate the underlying neurobiological bases of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and a knowledge-translation program designed to influence public policy and practice related to the role of experience in early brain and behavioural development.
THE BURDEN OF CHILD MENTAL HEALTH ON GENERAL HEALTH CARE UTILIZATION AND COST

This population-based study investigates the indirect costs associated with children’s mental health service delivery. The study will determine the potential benefits to society of preventing and treating child mental illness at the earliest age possible. The results of this study will be published soon.
MATERNAL ADVERSITY, VULNERABILITY AND NEURODEVELOPMENT (MAVAN) STUDY
McGill University
The MAVAN study has as its goal to investigate the effects of parental care, including prenatal care, on child development. The MAVAN research group has focused on the complex relationship between genetics and the environment involved in maternal stress. It also aims to identify more effective ways for at-risk mothers and babies to adapt to their environments and foster healthier lifestyle choices.
